 About Us ...

‘Leigh Central is a welcoming place for all’ Ofsted (June 2022)

Leigh Central Primary is a unique and diverse community school in the heart of Leigh town centre. We were fortunate enough to move into our fantastic new school building in October 2009 and our children benefit greatly from our state of the art technology and purpose built facilities. We share our building with our Leigh Central Children’s Centre which offers a superb range of opportunities for children under five and their families. Alongside a dedicated project room and outdoor play facilities it also houses a 60 place pre-school which has close links with school.

In June 2022, OFSTED judged our school to be ‘good’ in all aspects of our provision. The inspectors spent two days looking at all aspects of school life from teaching and learning to supporting children’s mental health and well-being. As a staff we work hard to ensure we offer a wide range of stimulating learning opportunities which meet the needs of all our children. We have high aspirations and expectations and monitor the progress that each child is making to ensure they are on track to achieve their full potential.

As a result of ‘Leaders prioritising pupil’s mental health and well-being’, OFSTED reports that ‘Pupils trust adults to keep them safe from any harm and this helps them to feel safe’. We know that this is valued by the children and their families within school and staff strive to ensure that we support all aspects of our children’s development whilst they are part of our family.

Over the years, we have built up a dedicated team of professionals in school who have accessed training and development to ensure they keep up to date with current thinking and have good knowledge of the best practices within teaching and learning. As a school we are constantly reflecting on our practice and strive to ensure we are offering the best possible learning opportunities and experiences for our children.

School takes an active part in a very successful cluster of schools (LLG Schools Partnership). As a cluster we constantly strive to make the best use of funding and initiatives on offer from the Government, the Local Authority and from within the cluster. Head teachers, Teachers, School Business Managers and Learning Mentors meet regularly as a partnership and strong, supportive and challenging relationships are now being built across our locality.

Our Leigh Central Values are at the heart of all we do and underpin the children’s personal and social development. We believe that we are preparing our children for the world beyond our school and so it is essential that our children not only have the knowledge and skills to compete in a future job market but also the appropriate personal attributes and values to ensure they make a positive contribution to society.

We believe that parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s education and so we ensure that we work in close partnership with our families. Parents respond positively to school and get involved in many of our family events. OFSTED found that ‘all parents and carers feel that their children are well taught, and that the school helps them support their children’s learning’.
