Physical Education and PE Grant

PE and Sports Grant (2016/17) -

We have once again received the PE and Sports grant for 2016-17 which will allow us to continue the momentum which was started three years ago. School continues to give PE and Physical Activity a high profile and our teams are beginning to develop and their skills are improving.

The allocated funds for Leigh Central Primary School for 2016-17 are £8869.

The needs of each school will vary and therefore the Goverment has given schools the freedom to decide how best to spend their funding.

Leigh Centurions Community Foundation

£220

A 6 week Tag Rugby training programme for Year 5 – leading to an inter schools competition.

Bespoke training (alongside teaching staff) leading to the opportunity for children to compete locally.

The effect of the premium on pupil’s PE and sport participation and attainment:

  • Our children have participated in a number of inter-school competitions and have achieved a numerous medals.
  • KS1 attended a Fencing competition and earned 4th place.
  • KS2 were awarded 2nd place in Hockey.
  • Our Basketball team have had a fantastic year; they won the Basketball Cluster competition, came 5th in the Regional Finals and achieved 2nd place in the LLG Champion of Champions competition that took place in January.
  • We have achieved a School Games Bronze Mark - see image below.

How we will make sure these improvements are sustainable?:

  • PE subject Lead attends regular PE network meetings – local and national updates, links to inter school competitions
  • We are part of the LLG consortia of local schools – we arrange our own competitions against local schools. We recently attended the LLG Champions of Champions Tournament where we came 2nd in the basket ball
  • Sustainability – rather than providing PPA the Premier Sports coaches work alongside the class teachers to upskill them and develop their expertise around PE. Teachers plan and assess alongside the regular coach who is also there to offer advice and expertise.
